Food Prep Day!

We are strong believers in Sunday Food Prep. If anything has helped me (especially) stay committed to a specific meal plan, it’s having prepared meals available at all times. This makes it so much easier to avoid all those temptations we see everywhere we turn. I typically do my grocery shopping on Fridays after work (BEFORE the kids are picked up from the sitters!) or on Saturday morning after my workout and breakfast.

I fully prepare as much as I possibly can on Sunday and if a meal is better off being made fresh (i.e. Dinner), then I make sure I have everything chopped up, trimmed and ready to go so I can quickly and efficiently get food on the table by 6 – 630 pm. This at least gives us some glimmer of hope that we can get the kids to bed by 8 and have an hour or so to ourselves. We love 8  o’clock, not gonna lie!

My iPad, which is a fairly new addition to our family, is key to organizing our meals. I’m sure a pen and paper would work just fine too, but c’mon! Throughout the week, I make a list in the Reminders app of all the meals I need to prepare for the following week and all the things I need to pick up at the store to make them. This gives me all week to daydream about all the things I want to eat or what sort of scheduling obstacles I need to work around food wise. By Friday, I usually have a pretty complete list, but I always end up at the store once or twice more throughout the week. It never fails!

Click on the weeks below to see what our Food for the Week looks like. I try to keep some variety in the mix so we don’t get bored and we always have whole wheat bread, natural peanut butter and honey on hand for when the kids look at me like i’m crazy for thinking they will eat what we have set in front of them!

If you have any questions about anything regarding our meal plans or food choices, we are happy to answer them. Links to the recipes are available if you see something you just gotta try!

6 Tips for Mastering Food Prep

Prepping a week's worth of food on one day may seem like a daunting task, and a little intimidating at first. Chances are it will take some practice, but once you get the hang of it, all you will need is about 2 - 3 hours and you'll have prepped food for you and...

15 Must Have Kitchen Tools

Making the committment to eat clean means there's going to be a lot of cooking in your future. If you're anything like me, that sounds amazing! But if your new to the kitchen and cooking (no, microwave cooking doesn't count!) you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed....

Prepping Amongst the Madness

Every year immediately following Mother's Day our lives get absolutely crazy. The sun's out, the kids want to live in the pool, Justin starts his continuous stream of out of town work, and we start what I like to refer to as our "celebration season." Holidays,...

The Highlights

The last few weeks have been a complete blur, but in the best way possible. Here's a few highlights of what all happened... We completed making our book and presentation for Meeting #1 in Arkansas that was nearly 70 pages long. When we started the project a week...

Sunday Food Prep 04.27.14

I'm keeping this one short and sweet folks! My schedule has been all sorts of crazy. At work we have been preparing for two big (out of state) meetings that are two weeks apart. We've got one down and we leave for the other on Monday to San Francisco! I'll be gone for...

We had  very busy weekend...Easter came early! Justin's brother, along with his wife and three adorable girls moved all the way to South Carolina a few months ago, so when we heard they were coming to visit we hopped on the chance (haha, get it) to have a big...

Sunday Food Prep 04.06.14

I know I'm not alone when I admit that I struggle with eating on the weekends. Why I don't prep enough food to last me all seven days of the week is beyond me! Temptations are everywhere and they were in full force this weekend. Justin and I had a birthday...

Sunday Food Prep 03.30.14

What a beautiful weekend! The sun was shining and we were actually able to get outside and play for a change. We even did a little gardening. I couldn't prep the food fast enough on Sunday, but sunny weather or not, it had to be done. I'm on my last week of the 100k...

Sunday Food Prep 03.23.14

It's time to cycle those carbs again! Yay. (insert sarcasm here). Now, I'm not giving up carbs completely, I'm just eating less carbs per day and consuming them before 2 PM. In theory, this should help me drop a little more weight during these final weeks of the 100k...

Prepping a week's worth of food on one day may seem like a daunting task, but once you get the hang of it, all you will need is about 2 - 3 hours. Here are a few things that help keep me from spending all day in the kitchen. Number 1: I love lists. I make a list of...

Sunday Food Prep 08.04.13

I'm taking the week off! I figure after a year and a half of little to no "rest", I should give my body some actual recovery time instead of just a day off here and there. Yesterday I woke up and turned on the P90X2 yoga video, and today I slept in! I plan on...

Sunday Food Prep 07.28.13

It was one of those days in my kitchen on Sunday. My brain was scattered, I felt like I was just walking around in circles half the time. Forgetting little things left and right, walking back and forth from the fridge to the prep station then back to the pantry or the...

Sunday Food Prep 07.21.13

I'm not sure what happened this weekend during my meal planning and shopping, but I ended up making enough food to feed an army. There's so much prepped food in the fridge that even Justin seemed a bit overwhelmed. I had to remind him that it is in fact not a contest...

Sunday Food Prep 07.15.13

So I think I am finally getting comfortable in the new kitchen. It's been a small struggle for me space-wise...I really miss the huge island we had at the old house. The space was just perfect for all my prep work. The new kitchen, although bigger, just doesn't have...
